“Gathering” Evening Speaker

I wish Wally would give me a belt buckle      On Thursday, March 9, 2006 – at 7:00 pm, our other evening speaker will be:

Wally Miller
Guest Speaker

Down on the Farm with Belt Buckles

Wally Miller has collected farm and ag-related belt buckles for 35 years. He is a member of the Midwest Belt Buckle Collectors and the National Association of Belt Buckle Collectors and has attended shows in Waco, TX, Wichita, KS, York, NE, Oklahoma City, OK and Waukee, IA. For several years, he wrote articles about farm-related buckles for Buckle Buddies magazine, the first magazine for buckle collectors. A 233 page book, Buckle Collecting Farm and Ranch Edition, was published in 1983 by Dee Huen and Wally Miller. It contains extensive information on belt buckles along with numerous pictures. Join Wally as he shows some of his collection and discusses personal experiences, special buckles, reasons to collect buckles, history, how to have a buckle made, the story of the World’s Largest Belt Buckle, how to tell real from fake, and what you should collect. Wally not only collects belt buckles but also researches the history of the companies and the products they manufactured.

Wally Miller was born and raised on a farm in southwestern Iowa and worked for several farm machinery dealers over the years. He and his wife, Judy, live in Creston, Iowa where he has been a rural mail carrier for 18 years. They have two daughters and one son, all married – and several very special grandkids. His love of buckles inspires him to design and produce items for special events or groups via his Down on the Farm Buckle Shop. Wally is also a collector and student of John Deere Lawn and Garden literature. He will lead a workshop on this topic during the conference.
